David O'Keefe needed to pull out all the stops to beat a talented field at the NSSA Championships at Huntington Beach last month. He did just that.
The 17-year-old trailed the foursome midway through the heat, but put up scores of 7.50 and 7.57 to give him heat total of 15.07 to win the men's open division. It was enough to give him his first national championship.
"A big win like this gives me confidence for the next step ahead of me, which is likely the QS and pro juniors" O'Keefe said. "I'm super stoked to come away with a national title and hope to keep it going...one heat at a time."
After winning his 1st and 2nd rounds, he put up a massive heat total in the quarterfinals, scoring 18.27 highlighted by a huge 9.50 score.
